“So Morricone, who changed the film music industry, influenced Hans Zimmer, who, in turn, changed the industry himself.”
Kojima explained the industry history presented in the documentary Ennio: in Morricone’s era a single composer would write and conduct the entire film score, but with the arrival of visual effects composers had to work without finished images and that became impossible for one person; that was when Hans Zimmer invented the concept of creating with a team and digitalizing the process before live recordings. Kojima said Morricone, who changed the film music industry, influenced Hans Zimmer, who in turn changed the industry, and that elements of Morricone can be heard at the core of Zimmer’s music.
“One of the things I find really interesting about Morricone's time is that one composer would be responsible for making the score for the entire movie. […] that's when Hans Zimmer invented the concept of creating with a team and digitalize the process before doing live recordings.”
