“He is my God, and the SAGA that he tells is my Bible”
Kojima deeply admires George Miller: after seeing Furiosa he wrote that Miller is his God and that the saga he tells is his Bible; he said he saw Mad Max: Fury Road seventeen times in cinemas, that he discovered Miller at sixteen, and that Miller has saved and cheered him countless times.
While meeting George Miller in Japan during the promotion of Mad Max: Fury Road, Kojima told him that his games are made inheriting various genes from the director, and that if he exists it is because Miller existed.
“If Scorsese's doing it, I can't criticize Scorsese. He's the second god. The first is George Miller.”
Asked by GQ, Kojima named as his four favorite films 2001: A Space Odyssey, Taxi Driver, Mad Max 2 and High and Low, although he clarified that his top four changes all the time.
“We're both pretty close to each other in that the movie business has been near and dear to our hearts. The only difference is that he's been able to keep making adventures this whole time.”
“Just like Tom Cruise said in Maverick, I could never work this hard if it was a job. It's more like a mission. I'm dedicating my life not to myself but to someone else. I'm creating for those who are waiting for me.”
