“Also, the scariest movie in the whole world for me is The Exorcist. I've only ever watched it once.”
Kojima said his ranking of fear: the scariest movie in the whole world for him is The Exorcist, and he has only ever watched it once. By contrast he was able to watch Exorcist II many times because it is not scary: it was directed by John Boorman and the music is by Ennio Morricone, who supplies a beautiful, almost holy melody that plays while Linda Blair confronts the locusts and waves her arms and the locusts die. Against the Tubular Bells score by Mike Oldfield in the first film, Morricone’s emotional melody neutralizes the terror; for Kojima this is living proof of how music can completely change the impression of a work.
“But I was able to watch Exorcist II multiple times because it's not scary at all. John Berman directed it and Morricone provided the music. A beautiful melody plays while Linda Blair fights off locusts. […] the second one was done by Morricone, and he created a song with a really emotional melody.”
