“But make sure you choose it yourself. Don't just borrow one from somebody. I give people recommendations, but you have to be the one to decide which one to read from there. Take responsibility. When you hit the jackpot, you'll be hooked.”
Kojima closed his fair with a reader’s credo: he said he knows many people find it hard to choose a book, so he asked attendees to come to the table and take whichever one they wanted — because of the blurb on the band, the title, or simply the cover design. He added one condition: choose it yourself and don’t just borrow one from someone else; he will give recommendations, but deciding which to read is up to you. He told them to take responsibility, and that when they find the right book they will get hooked.
“I think a lot of people have a hard time choosing books for themselves. […] Whether it's the comments on the cover, or the title, or you just like the cover design, buy it and try reading it. But make sure you choose it yourself. […] Take responsibility. When you hit the jackpot, you'll be hooked.”
