Six months after founding his independent studio, Kojima presented the first trailer for Death Stranding at E3 in June 2016, and the warm reception after he declared “I’m back” confirmed that continuing to make video games had been the right decision. While still searching for staff, technology, and an office, he offered Norman Reedus the lead role, the team produced the trailer in about two and a half months, they moved into their current office only three weeks before the event, and they accomplished the announcement without outsourcing or a rigid division of labor.
