“I wanted to offer another way, which is why I made Death Stranding.”
Kojima placed the start of planning for Death Stranding at the end of 2015 and framed it in his moment: there was a lot of fragmentation and isolation, a world that was splitting apart and which, despite being connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, was not coming together. He said he wanted to offer another way, and that is why he made Death Stranding.
