“But it's like when Hayao Miyazaki says he is not going to do more, and then always ends up doing it. I think I am kind of in a similar situation; I have ideas other than Metal Gear, and I want to go on to make other new games, but for political, business or technology reasons, there is always a time when I have to return.”
Asked in 2008 why he had announced, first, Metal Gear Solid 2, then Metal Gear Solid 3 and then Metal Gear Solid 4 as his last Metal Gear, Kojima said he always says what he feels at the moment and compared himself to Hayao Miyazaki, who announces he will not do more and always ends up doing it; Kojima said he has ideas outside Metal Gear and wants to make new games, but for political, business or technology reasons there is always a time when he has to return, and he added that he frankly intends to stay true to his statements and does say what he actually feels after each Metal Gear when he says he is going to move on to the next project.
“I say frankly, on a private level, that I always intend to stay true to these statements; I do always say what I actually feel at that time, after each Metal Gear, when I say I am going to move on to the next project.”
