It was during that time that my parents introduced a family…

Anecdote 2012-05-23
“It was during that time that my parents introduced a family tradition: every night we would all watch a film together. I wasn't allowed to go to bed till the film had finished: the opposite of how it is for most children.”
What it documents

Kojima’s parents established a family tradition of watching a film together every night; he was not allowed to go to bed until the film had finished, the opposite of how it is for most children. They were keen fans of westerns, European cinema and horror and did not shield him from adult content. From about ten years old they began giving him money to go to the cinema by himself on the condition that he bought the film brochure, came home and discussed the movie’s themes and direction with them.
