What it documents

Kojima dedicated episode 2 of Brain Structure to NOPE, newly released in Japan, and said that although the film is called NOPE, for him it was a resounding yes. He placed Peele — a comedian turned director (Get Out, Us) who also produced Candyman — and the film in a Close Encounters of the Third Kind–type category: a new kind of horror that uses a novel way to scare the audience, like Hitchcock in his golden years, and which includes social themes. He acknowledged some stretches with insufficient foreshadowing but said he had never seen a movie quite like this before. Kojima identified a first thematic thread about photography and cinema — alongside the film-world itself, UFOs and viral video as a modern concept — and said he would see the film again in IMAX because its images are very powerful.

[…] There are a few places where there wasn't enough foreshadowing, but I've never seen a movie quite like this before. […] The first concept in the movie focuses on photography and Cinema. […] I'm going to go see this movie one more time at an IMAX theatre.”
