Kojima reviewed the UFO iconography of his generation: the Adamski-type saucer (round on the bottom, spinning) and the cigar-shaped type; the grey aliens with baby-like proportions, which he says are that way because the body recovered in Roswell was grey; and the Venusians that looked like normal women, which he said he thought were fake. As a child he took Roswell seriously: he heard that the military was hiding information and that the FBI had captured aliens, and he said he made an homage to that in the Metal Gear series. As a boy he defended the existence of aliens to the neighborhood women with his own logic — everyone who has been captured by an alien always describes them as grey, and it seems so much like a lie that it must be true.
