“If I direct the same team, it will only lead to the same game being made.”
Kojima explained why he put an outside director, Murata, in charge of Anubis instead of someone from his team: he said Yoji Shinkawa had been offered the director role —thinking of how Tetsuya Nomura, also an art designer, moved into directing— but Shinkawa felt his talent lay elsewhere and declined, and Kojima said the Metal Gear team is full of people like that. Kojima thought that if he removed himself and brought in a new director from outside, like Murata, it would help everyone gather their strength around a leader, and he added that he would probably have to reshuffle things again in the future because if he always directs the same team only the same game will be made.
