Anecdote 2022-09
“Then for episode 1, I'll direct the opening and you'll direct the rest of the story. For episode 2, you'll direct the opening. And I was like, what kind of nonsense is this?”
What it documents

Kojima said —after first checking whether he was allowed to say it— that he is on very good terms with Guillermo del Toro and that there was a time when a big producer called him about an idea for a series; del Toro was there and proposed doing it together. Kojima warned that if they worked together things would heat up, del Toro agreed and proposed taking turns: in episode 1 he would direct the opening and Kojima the rest of the story, and in episode 2 Kojima would direct the opening. Kojima reacted that this was nonsense, and concluded, as Oshii had said, that it is very difficult for two directors to work together.
