Kojima said the 1970 Osaka World Expo had an enormous impact on him: there he saw for the first time people from different countries and cutting‑edge technology such as an enormous videophone. The Expo promoted the catchphrase “Progress and Harmony for mankind” and presented a vision of the future — the 21st Century — in which technology would make people happy and technology would connect the world.
