“So I can't read it, but I'm happy just to own it.”
Kojima declared himself an absolute fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: he owns everything — books, photo collections, all the CDs and vinyl, first limited editions and various versions. He said he arrived a little late: he discovered Cave when Cave appears in Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders; Kojima came from electro-pop and UK alternative, and Cave’s music was something different — jazzy, a bit improvisational, with lyrics he was not used to. Among his trophies is a Japanese edition from Mute Records that included the book Nick Cave wrote in English, untranslated; Kojima said he cannot read it but is happy just to own it. When Blixa (ex-Bad Seeds, of Einstürzende Neubauten) played at a venue in Shinjuku, Kojima attended and was the only Japanese person there.
“Nick Cave appeared in the movie Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders, right? […] I've always listened to electro-pop and alternative music, especially from the UK. But Nick's music was something different, jazzy and a bit improvisational. […] Once, a Japanese version I got from Mute Records came with the book Nick Cave wrote. […] I was the only Japanese person there.”
