In his early games Kojima relied on programmers to realise his vision and was frustrated when they altered slightly what he wanted on screen, the timing of a line of dialogue or a musical cue. After the second Metal Gear he developed his own scripting engine and moved to adventure games — Snatcher and Policenauts — so he could have complete control over when animations played and when music triggered, a way to take creative control back from the programmers.
