Yes, the process of going to the restroom. I don't really need to use…

Anecdote 2022-11
“Yes, the process of going to the restroom. I don't really need to use the bathroom.”
What it documents

Kojima said his unsticking trick is to get up and take a restroom walk — he does not really need to use the bathroom, it is the act of going — and when he returns the idea is there; alternatively he will go and chat about trivialities with someone on the team and in the middle of the conversation the bulb goes on because stimulating another part of the brain frees it. He added wryly that it may sound odd for his age but one thing he never runs out of is ideas, and that the hard part is making them because his body no longer gives him enough physical strength. He also thinks in his sleep, records those dream ideas in his phone app, and writes his movie reviews and book commentaries there because he does not have much time.

“So then, I take a bathroom break and when I get back, the idea is there. […] If you stimulate another part of your brain, your brain gets unstuck. […] one thing I never run out of is ideas. But actually, making things is tough because I don't have enough physical strength. […] I write my movie reviews and book commentaries on my phone.”
