“Nowadays, I tweet something, then the media will take that tweet and paste it somewhere and call it news. That's not how it should work. It's just a tweet. It's not meant to be news.”
For Kojima, the biggest problem in the fake news cycle is the loss of journalistic integrity: the media no longer research the source before publishing. They used to call and ask "Is this true?" and only then give the green light; they do not do that anymore. Nowadays he tweets something, the media take that tweet, paste it somewhere and call it news — which he says is not how it should work, since it is just a tweet and not meant to be news. At minimum they should call and ask why he tweeted what he did, but that does not happen in this era.
“The biggest problem here is the lack of journalistic integrity. The media doesn't research the source material before publishing it. […] They usually call and ask around, ''Is this true?'' and then give the green light to publish. They don't do that anymore now.”
