“It's the making of Death Stranding, but it's also a bit like a documentary about me. I'll announce it when we're ready to announce it, so yeah.”
Asked in 2022 about the making-of for Death Stranding, Kojima said they filmed behind-the-scenes footage from the very beginning — in that tiny room right after the studio became independent — including the sessions with the actors. He said it was not released after the game’s launch because there was too much material and nobody could handle it; they had a director but things did not work out and changes were required. He said the project was considered for the Director's Cut and shelved again, and that it was finally coming together with a runtime neither too long nor too short. He described it as the making of Death Stranding but also a bit like a documentary about himself, and said he would announce it when they were ready.
