Preguntado en 2022 por el making-of de Death Stranding, Kojima contó que se rodó desde el principio — «en aquel cuartito, justo después de independizarnos» — incluidas las sesiones con los actores; que no se publicó tras el lanzamiento (lo habitual) porque había demasiado material y nadie podía con él («teníamos un director, las cosas no funcionaron y hubo que hacer cambios»); que se pensó para el Director's Cut y volvió a aparcarse; y que por fin estaba tomando forma, con una duración «ni muy larga ni muy corta»: «es el making of de Death Stranding, pero también es un poco un documental sobre mí.
