Anecdote 2023-02
“In Spain, there was a huge line to buy the game because it was the first time that a Spanish audio game was released in the country of Spain.”
What it documents

Kojima reviewed the evolution of localization for his games, saying they sold in about 20 countries and that, in the past, Japanese games were exported with the original Japanese audio and eventually received English dubs but only in English. He said the multilingual dubs for Metal Gear Solid took more than ten months to complete, and that in Spain there was a huge line to buy the game because it was the first time a game with Spanish audio was released in Spain. He contrasted that with the present, when everything is released the same day like Netflix, and said it is impossible for him to be involved one hundred percent, so he leaves some things to others.

“I think, like, 20 countries. So, back in the day, Japanese games were exported with the original Japanese audio. Eventually, English-dubbed versions became a thing. But it was only English. […] It took more than 10 months to do all of them. […] But nowadays, it's all released on the same day, like Netflix. It's impossible to be involved with it 100%, so there are things that I let other people handle.”
