this is exactly the kind of thing I have always wanted to create. Not…

Direct quote 1992
“this is exactly the kind of thing I have always wanted to create. Not a game merely played to "pass the time", but something that would be important to one's own life experience.”
What it documents

In 1992 Kojima recounted that a high school student had written saying he bought Snatcher the night before a school test and, unable to control himself, stayed up all night to finish it and subsequently failed the test; the student said he did not regret it and thanked Kojima for the moving experience. Kojima said he felt a certain responsibility for having influenced that small part of the boy’s life, but that this is exactly the kind of thing he has always wanted to create: not a game merely played to “pass the time,” but something that would be important to one’s own life experience.
