Direct quote 1992
“my concept for Snatcher was not to make a game with a broad and shallow appeal that anyone, "from children to adults!" could enjoy. The concept was different: this game would appeal to, and remain etched in, the heart of a very specific kind of person.”
What it documents

In 1992 Kojima explained that his concept for Snatcher was not to make a game with a broad, shallow appeal that anyone could enjoy, but rather a game that would appeal to, and remain etched in the heart of, a very specific kind of person. He also acknowledged that, compared with other media, Snatcher’s story and setting were not very strong, that the team borrowed heavily from Blade Runner and that it would not be strange if someone thought they were just screwing around. What he cared to express was not an original story or world but the lives of the characters and the inexorable fate that drags them along without their knowing it.

“Also, I should probably say that compared with other media, Snatcher's story/setting isn't very good. We borrowed a lot from Blade Runner. It certainly wouldn't be strange if someone thought we were just screwing around.”
