Sony has this new technology system called the Mado. It means window…

Anecdote 2022-12
“Sony has this new technology system called the Mado. It means window in Japanese. […] It feels like an illusion almost. Like the person on the screen is right there.”
What it documents

Kojima explained that he directed the performance captures for Death Stranding 2 during the pandemic without meeting Norman Reedus in person by using Sony’s Mado system — Mado means window in Japanese — a real‑time setup with interactive picture and sound whose other side could be New York and that creates an almost illusory sense that the person on the screen is there. He said the system used enormous screens like giant iPads, with two at Kojima Productions and two at the PCAP set. Kojima added that the technology has improved so much in the last three years that things that were impossible before are now possible, that they are really challenging themselves and in that sense it is not an ordinary sequel, and that from December 2022 onward he would return to the set in person for the captures.

[…] So, imagine that you have two of these enormous iPads at Kojima Productions, and there are also two at the PCAP set. […] But starting in December and here on out, I'll be going to the set for the performance captures.”
