Cuando Metal Gear Solid 2 llevó a Kojima a la lista de Newsweek de personas a seguir en 2003, ella volvió a hablar de él y se propuso jugar a sus juegos: ya septuagenaria, tardó meses en completar Metal Gear Solid 3 —pidiendo ayuda a sus amigas— y, tras derrotar a The End, lo llamó por teléfono para decirle «It is finished». Su madre murió en 2017.
